Sarah shares her wedding day experiEnce
Tell us what motivated you when planning your own wedding?
A big motivation was having deadlines set for certain things. When planning your wedding as well as working full time, the weekends fly past so quickly! Making sure you have targets set for organising and sorting certain things really helps!
What made you choose your venue?
We were looking for somewhere with the WOW factor! We wanted our families to have an experience they would never forget and Peckforton Castle had it all… even from the drive up to the castle through the forest to having the opportunity of staying in a grand bedroom for the night.
Is there anything that you regret spending money on?
Let’s face it, everything is expensive when ‘wedding’ is mentioned! But, we can honestly say, we don’t regret anything we spent money on. At the time you wonder if anybody will notice the effort you have put into small things such as the wedding favours or the confetti bags, but people mention them to us all the time to say what a nice touch they were.
How did you choose the suppliers that you chose?
Our venue had a list of suppliers they used regularly and I am so glad we went with them! Yes, you can look around and find things which are a little cheaper but it is defiantly worth going with suppliers who know your venue. It helps you to relax and puts your mind at ease that they know exactly what they are doing!
What was your favourite part of the day?
Our favourite part, apart from saying ‘I Do’, was the first dance. The song meant so much to us and once everyone else had been invited to join us, it was magical being surrounded by our friends and family on the dace floor.
Who made your dress?
My dress was an Allure Bridals gown which I ordered from The Bridal Lounge in Cuddington, Cheshire.
Did your husband choose to buy or rent his suit?
Alex chose to rent his and his groomsmen’s suits. We got these from Peter Posh in Knutsford.
Did you stay within budget?
We didn’t have a budget for our wedding day. We decided to get the major things such as the venue, flowers, dress, suits and photographer and manage the amount we spent on everything else. A lot of things we did ourselves and therefore managed the cost that way!
Was there anything that you upped the budget for along the way?
A couple of months before our wedding, the shop I ordered my wedding dress from went into administration. We lost all of our money on not only my wedding dress, but also my bridesmaid dresses, veil and accessories. Considering the amount of money we had already lost, I had to really think whether to look for a less expensive dress or try find someone else who stocked my dream dress which I had already fallen in love with. I decided to look for someone else who stock my Allure dress as I felt I would have compared everything else I tried on to it. Luckily, I managed to find Sara at The Bridal Lounge who was able to take over the order from Allure and look after me right the way up until the wedding day.
What was the favourite thing you heard from one of your guests?
A few of our guests have said that they felt like they were in a fairytale. When we planned our wedding, we tried to create a ‘feeling’ with a theme. We went for blossom trees and lots of candles and fairy lights which we thought would make it feel very magical.
How did you choose your photographer?
Our wedding venue, Peckforton Castle, suggested our photographer to us as she had done lots of weddings there and knew the grounds and lighting in the castle very well. she was amaizing on the day and the pictures are amazing!
Was there anything that didn’t happen that you wanted to?
No, everything went smoothly! It was such a perfect day.
When you look back on it, did the day go quick or slowly?
The day went so quickly! We couldn’t believe the day was over at the end of the evening!
What was your first dance to and why?
Our first dance was to The Corrs, Runaway. We have both always loved The Corrs before even meeting each other! We had to have one of their songs for our first dance and ‘Runaway’ was perfect.
Did you have wedding readings? If so who did them, what did they read and why?
Both of my two sisters read a poem about marriage for us during our ceremony. We wanted to make the ceremony more personal and having my two sisters read a poem included them but also made it unique to us.
What was the most stressful part of your special day?
A couple of months before our wedding, the shop I ordered my wedding dress from went into administration. We lost all of our money on not only my wedding dress, but also my bridesmaid dresses, veil and accessories. Luckily, I managed to find Sara at The Bridal Lounge who was able to take over the order from Allure and look after me right the way up until the wedding day.
What advice would you give any coupes who are self-planning?
I would suggest you make everything personal to you.. that’s what makes the day special. It is the little things which make your wedding different from any other your guests have been to before. It’s also these little things that you enjoy making or planning the most!
What is your favourite photograph of the day?
My favourite photograph is defiantly the one of me and the back of my wedding dress. I absolutely love my dress and this picture shows it off beautifully!
Thanks for sharing this advice Sarah, you were wonderful to work with! Your wedding day looks amazing and you clearly made for a beautiful bride.
